On June 6, 2023, Aruna celebrated National Fisher’s Day as well as the 3rd birthday of Seafood by Aruna. Through the #RevolusiProtein campaign, Aruna not only focuses on the welfare of 40,000 Aruna Fishers, but also to provide protein sourced from marine fish for consumers in Indonesia. Today was definitely a moment to appreciate Aruna Fishers and remember how Aruna first initiated Seafood by Aruna.

1. Seafood by Aruna was founded during COVID-19

Amid the hardship due to COVID-19, Aruna was inevitably required to think a few steps further. In order to ensure the sustainability and availability of the market demands, Aruna began to initiate Seafood by Aruna. Focusing on the domestic market, the founding of Seafood by Aruna was done to fulfill the Indonesian people’s need for protein. The protein was expected to help them maintain their immune system against COVID-19.

2. Seafood products selected by local and global markets

As much as 40% of the total market that Aruna has focuses on the domestic one. One of the factors that makes Aruna succeed in maintaining its share of fisheries supply—not only in the domestic market, but also the global market—is because of Aruna’s commitment and responsibility to provide selected seafood products. Through technology, traceability aspects, sustainable fisheries, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) are some of the things that Aruna is committed to guaranteeing.

3. Small-scale fishers must be paid attention to

Utari Octavianty, the Co-Founder and Chief Sustainability Officer of Aruna, said, “To date, Aruna has produced more than 23 superior fishery commodities with international quality that also meet the demands of the domestic fisheries market. Especially for local retail consumers, Aruna’s superior products can be purchased at the Seafood by Aruna e-commerce.”

The government has also taken some steps to create effective upstream to downstream access for fishery products. It’s to make economic progress for the marine and fisheries sector. Utari continued, “Working with small-scale fishers, we should actually become a source of information for the government about the fundamental role of small-scale fishers. Thus, whatever policies may be created, small-scale fishers won’t be negatively affected. Happy Fisher’s Day. Hoping that Seafood by Aruna can sail even farther!”
