Aruna takes part as a speaker at the #GoogleCloud Sustainability Summit 2022
On 16 September 2022, Google Cloud invited Aruna to be one of the speakers at the #GoogleCloud Sustainability Summit in Singapore. Carrying the theme “Solving for Sustainability in Fisheries”, Aruna was represented by Co-Founder and Chief Sustainability Officer, Utari Octavianty. This event is intended for business leaders who have started to apply technology as well as the concept of sustainability in the businesses they run.
The #GoogleCloud Sustainability Summit highlights products that offer new solutions through a number of sessions that allow audiences to understand how Aruna leverages technology and data to ensure transparency in the fishing industry. This starts from the traceability of product origins, to the direct connectivity of fishermen and consumers. This level of visibility can certainly increase the sustainability of fisheries and marine ecosystems in Indonesia.
In his session, Utari revealed, “Aruna has four types of business units to handle end-to-end business processes in the fisheries supply chain. Currently, we are focusing on seven main commodities. While enriching commodities, each business unit will have further complications handled by the application of three-layered technologies, including application input, integrated ERP, and big data. Technically, these technology layers can be maintained more easily with GCP. However, this big step towards sustainability actually starts from data that is neatly compiled in Google spreadsheets. It’s not just technically heavy, steps that seem light even Google help.”
Ampy Aswin, Director of Supply Chain and Logistics Industry Solutions at Google Cloud, who moderated the Aruna session, added, “Events like this aim to help female founders improve their leadership skills, as well as strengthen team relationships. We are also proud to be able to involve Aruna in our event. So far, Aruna has contributed a lot to increasing global demand for sustainable fishery products and the relationship between fishermen and the global market.”
Aruna realizes how backward the fishing industry is, so Aruna is determined to carry out a mission to overcome the lack of transparency in the traditional fishing industry. This is done by building a digital platform that can connect fishermen and their catch to local and global markets. Closing the event, Ampy said, “Thank you. We look forward to more innovations and opportunities from Aruna that we can explore together to address various sustainability challenges.”
Aruna at the G20 Summit: Implementation of Sustainability and Aruna’s New Initiatives for Bali
Bali, Indonesia – Aruna was directly invited by the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information and Google Indonesia to be a speaker at a series of G20 Summit activities. Held from 2 to 4 September 2022 in Nusa Dua, Bali, this prestigious event has “The Rise of the Digital Economy: Post-Pandemic Recovery and Beyond” as its main theme. Aruna, a fisheries aggregator supply chain company from Indonesia, emphasized its involvement in implementing sustainable marine ecosystems through technology, as well as inviting G20 Summit delegates from various countries to Aruna’s Exclusive G20 Showcase at the TT Beach Club.
The aim of holding the G20 Summit is to find innovative solutions initiated by several startups from various parts of the world, share knowledge and insights about these innovations, and enhance partnerships by providing opportunities and business momentum for networking and collaboration. In line with this, Aruna mentioned his commitment to prioritize aspects of People, Profit and Planet. People are the main foundation because if properly educated, this will certainly help them, Aruna fishermen in particular, to be able to think about other substantial things, such as their interpersonal relationships with other fishermen, for example, and the sustainability of their business in the future.
The Minister of Communication and Information of the Republic of Indonesia, Johnny Gerard Plate, opened the event and said, “One of our priority issues at the moment is digital literacy. G20 members are currently formulating a G20 toolkit to measure digital literacy and digital skills. To make it happen, we certainly need a lot of support from many stakeholders who have various crucial roles, including startup friends who are usually rich in ideas and innovations. This of course must be balanced with managed human resource development, then also look at the environmental aspect. It has to be thorough.”
Utari Octavianty, Co-Founder and Chief Sustainability of Aruna, added, “Profit is indeed necessary, but to achieve an ideal profit point, people remain the main axis. People are the main actors. For this reason, Aruna continues to educate Aruna’s fishermen on responsible and sustainable fishing techniques for marine commodities through Aruna’s routine program. We also invite Aruna fishermen to use environmentally friendly fishing gear and not catch commodities that do not meet fishing requirements. Not forgetting from a technological point of view, Aruna also encourages Nakama Aruna (our employee) to continue developing and presenting digital technology that can facilitate the process of commodity traceability at the global level. We also present Local Heroes as Aruna’s representatives in the field to help penetrate Aruna fishermen.”
On the last day of the G20 Summit series, Aruna invited delegates to attend the Aruna’s Exclusive G20 Showcase event at the TT Beach Club, Melasti Beach 88 to explore Aruna’s new initiatives in supporting the preservation and sustainability of the marine ecosystems in Bali, Indonesia and the world. Ecotourism as a result of Aruna’s initiative will soon be launched in the near future. In this business matching that is initiated by Aruna, opportunities for collaboration are wide open for delegates from various countries who are interested in business processes and long-term initiatives that are being designed—not only by Aruna, but also by a number of other parties who are also attending the event. .
Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investments, concluded, “With a forum for connection and collaboration that exists between one stakeholder and another, Indonesia has a great opportunity to be able to show how the right investment can create local jobs, support entrepreneurship, and even fight change. climate. Furthermore, this certainly has the potential to grow the country’s and the world’s economy in the future. Keep trying to recover together, recover stronger!”
